Growing Faith – Content and Knowledge

Next comes “Theological Content,” an essential ingredient for catechist and teacher
formation. The ten sessions in each book introduce the topic and recommend the
appropriate booklet(s) from the Growing Faith Project, a comprehensive and
systematic presentation of the faith based on the Catechism. The booklets are part
of the Text Set you recieve.

By following the complete, three trimester program of Into the Fields, you will obtain
a thorough review of everything we teach in our Catholic faith. The purpose of
studying the content of our faith like this is two fold:

  • It will help you integrate the Catholic faith more deeply into your own life.
Having done that, you will be more able to lead others to Christ through the
    Church.

  • The Bishops are concerned that all who teach the faith do so fully and
accurately. This thorough review will help you do that. The Reflections and
Exercises with the Growing Faith booklets are all designed to lead to that
    outcome.

Step 2. Theological Content

The Theological Content follows the flow of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and is
complete and comprehensive but in plain English. The author is
Bill Huebsch, with Sr.
Maureen Shaughnessy, SC
, as general editor. Here you will be introduced to the themes
covered, and share excerpts from the text.

The purpose is to study the substance of the Catholic faith in measured, manageable
amounts using the Growing Faith booklet(s) that apply to the particular session you are
covering.

Spend at least thirty minutes reading each booklet and doing the exercises and reflections
suggested there, making notes as you proceed. Again, while this may be done privately, you
may wish to join with others in this process outside the formal teaching session. Later,
within the large group teaching session, you will be invited to share insights and questions.

You will benefit most from your study of the Growing Faith booklets if you also reflect on the
artwork and words presented in large script. Ask yourself: what do these words or this
illustration mean to me?
